Signs of a Busted Water Pipe in your Flora Vista home
6/17/2022 (Permalink)
While a large water leak is the most visible sign of a broken pipe, there are other symptoms that homeowners may notice before major water damage occurs. Keep an eye out for the following signs of a pipe burst:
Water Marks
Most pipes run behind the walls and if they’re leaking or burst, they can leave marks on the wall. You may also notice the dampness on the walls or squishy parts.
Fluctuating Water Pressure
When water pressure starts to fluctuate, it could be due to a burst pipe somewhere in the house. Changes in pressure are difficult for your home's plumbing system, and they can cause pipe fittings to break.
Discolored, Smelly Water
Dirt and other impurities can enter the water when underground water pipes rupture. An unnoticed busted pipe will rust over time. The water has a brownish color due to the rust particles. Furthermore, the rust creates a breeding ground for bacteria, which can lead to serious health problems. If the water smells like rotten eggs, it's possible that sewage is leaking.
Noises in the Walls
You shouldn't hear the water if it isn't running anywhere in the house. You're probably hearing water reacting to fluctuating pressure in defective pipes if you hear hissing or gurgling noises inside the walls. In pipes with tiny diameters, the sounds tend to be louder.
High water bill
Small drips from faucets can waste more than 100 gallons of water a year. If your water bill is suddenly out of control without any significant shifts in use, you may have a pipe leaking into the ground or other area of your home.
If you notice signs of a burst pipe, you must act quickly to limit the damage that is done. Contact SERVPRO of Farmington at 970-259-6184.
